Rap Bolters on the South Face of Prusik - Doug Ingersoll and Brooke Sandahl - Der Sportsman Route. What is called a new age classic was actually a route which had to be done by bolting on rappel. These guys were not good enough to do the route so they rappel bolted down the mountain. Ignoring ALL the other great lines already done on the peak ground up and also ignoring the clean attempts by several previous climbing parties on this route. All talk of bolts was very hush hush. Very typical of climbers promoting themselves instead of good ethics and an admirable style of climbing.
If you're going to rappel bolt don't get photographed doing it in the wilderness where it is illegal and more importantly refrain from doing so on a Pacific Northwest icon. Also don't conceal or be evasive to the fact that your route was not ground up. Aside from ignoring the thought of climbing ground up. You have no credibility. I stopped buying Metolius a long time ago because of this. It doesn't matter to me if you jugged the Nose with Lynn Hill.
It's kind of ironic to name it "Der Sportsman" when it wasn't very sporting to bolt from a rope on rappel.Furthermore when confronted Doug admitted to rappel bolting only after I told him I saw him and had photos. So he's a known liar too. Doug Ingersoll resorted to direct personal insults when confronted about his dirty little secrets. Not a surpise really as a standup guy wouldn't have defaced a Pacific Northwest icon. The guy has no morals or class. Doug, if you get a chance to read this you still have a chance to redeem yourself for your insulting remarks in person. Get in the ring. I doubt you're man enough...
